Fungouperus Play date

We enjoyed another fun play date at the Couperus house.  Beibhinn and Josie have so much fun together and Fearghus enjoys exploring the toys with a little less scrutiny from his sister! Erin and I enjoy the chats too!

Ergo Magic

This little man has been have a hard ol' time with his molars.  Recently the only thing that worked was to strap him into his ergo baby carrier.  He's still my little baby!

What A Week

Andrew was away on business for a couple of days in Edmonton this week. He left very early on Wednesday morning and planned to get a red eye home on Thursday evening, keen toget back to curl... I mean the family. 

All was going well on Wednesday we even got out to church and taught Pastor Peter how to use Twitter! All went well that is until bedtime, Béibhinn just wouldn't settle (and as a result, neither would Fearghus) suddenly she insisted on being brought to the kitchen where she started to vomit. And so the night progressed, she vomited again and again. I was being very practical about it and even started to put some clothes into the wash. Things started to slow down later on and I decided to check the laundry. I found the laundry room full of black smoke and a smell of burn. Our washing machine had given up-right in the middle of a pukey wash! Ugh! Murphy's Law is what they call it I believe. 

Anyway, after throwing up eight times poor little Béibhinn finally slept. We hunkered down all day Thursday for Daddy's return this morning. And boy were we glad to see him get home! Because he hadn't slept much on his overnight flight he needed to nap when he got home. Béibhinn found him asleep and decided to cuddle in beside him and take a nap. Daddy, Béibhinn and Fearghus all slept for four long hours this morning. All in recovery mode I think!

Daddy in Action

Most Friday's we go to watch to watch Andrew play curling at the local curling club.  The kids love this weekly treat.  They mostly enjoy charming his team mates and eating crisps afterwards.

Recently I decided to go crazy and cook four dinners all at once.  I made two cottage pies and two chicken pot pies. One of the pies had a gluten free, dairy free, soy free, egg free pie crust for Beibhinn. I love cooking :)

Fearghus loves his apples.  I thought that if I kept them in a bowl in the middle of the dining room table they would be safe.  No such thing in this house anymore.  I found him with all three apples in hand attempting to take bites out of each of them.  Thankfully I rescued them, but I did allow him to have one as a reward for his intrepidation.  Later on he tried to get the remaining two again.  I have no idea where I'm going to store my fruit now.  I really like that location!
Yes he does have a ribbon in his hair.  He insists on having one regularly just so he can be like his big sister...

New Shelf

I am definitely a more project oriented person. Maintenance isn't my thing, it feels a bit soul destroying to me. I tidy the place, two days later it's like a tornado hit...again. Today, despite the fact that my house is a mess in general, I decided to tap into my tunnel vision and I organized this shelf that has never been organized since moving into this house. Of course it included a quick run to target for some baskets...and maybe a few other things...THERE'S A SALE!!! I am quite pleased with the results! I feel a sense of accomplishment :) I need to do more projects...

Wednesday Afternoons

 

We have been spending some of our Wednesday afternoons at the afternoon prayer meeting at our church. Andrew works just across the road from the church so it's nice that we can go together.  While Andrew and I enjoy the fellowship of praying together, the children have taken to situating themselves on Pastor Peter's lap and having him read to them... They know who the soft touch is!

I have no idea how he got a biro into his room.  He did a pretty good job of that faux mustache though!

Eggless Peanut Butter Cookies

 

Béibhinn has many food sensitivities. A long list.  I've always wanted to make these three ingredient peanut butter cookies but I was scared away by the egg ingredient.  Béibhinn can't eat eggs and I wasn't sure I could just do a direct flax "egg" replacement-seeing as it was one of three ingredients I didn't feel like I could replace one of them. Today I was desperate for some cookies and I just didn't want to haul a load of ingredients out.  I decided to give these cookies a go.  They turned out delicious! They are a little bit crumbly but if you hold them gently they stay intact and they're delicious! I followed the proportions in this recipe and I added maybe a quarter cup of sugar. If you don't do eggs try this out.  Otherwise try it out with eggs. So easy to make and so delicious!

Baby Doll

Fearghus has become very fond of baby dolls. He's loves babies in general. Béibhinn isn't as into them though so we don't have many in our house. Today when we were visiting the Couperuses he grew attached to this doll and Auntie Erin let us borrow it. Should I buy one for him?...

Saturday Morning Dance

Béibhinn has been kicking up a stink every Saturday about going to her dance class. This Saturday I managed to get her in there by just sitting in the class with her. She really enjoyed it! Hopefully she'll go on her own soon!

Felt Flower Pot

Finally got around to making this flower pot craft that Kathleen Carey gave to Béibhinn for Christmas. She's been bugging me all week to do it and as soon as it was done she wanted to show it to PorPor :D

Bible Bears

A dear friend at church gave the children these little bibles. A boy version and a girl version. They love them! 

Read Along "Jesus Story"

Béibhinn loves reading along to the story and turning the page when she hears the chime :) Fearghus has to copy his big sister even if it's the wrong book :D

A New Reason for Blogging

Usually I don't post here much, haven't for nearly two years. Since deciding to take a long break from facebook I have decided to use this blog as a place to share little updates and photographs of our life in Kingston, Ontario (where we've been living for a year now).  This is a private blog which is only viewed by friends so the posts will be mostly photos with very little "story telling" I think :)
This is a less time consuming way to keep in touch.  Thanks for reading and please comment or email me :)

Six Weeks of Fearghus Timothy Patrick

I can't believe that it's almost 6 weeks since Mr. Fearghus was born.  It's been a lot of fun being a family of four but a lot of adjusting also.  The biggest adjustments are yet to come however.  For the first two weeks of Fearghus's life we had help from Andrew's parents and from a dear friend from church, Rosslyn.  I had two days on my own with the children and then Dad and Mum arrived from Ireland.  For the first two weeks we also had a constant stream of dinners and desserts being delivered from dear friends from our church and our neighbourhood, it was wonderful.  Dad stayed for 2 weeks.  While he and mum were here I just rested mostly while they took care of the children (I mostly just fed Fearghus when needed and held him a lot).  Then when Dad left I tried to mostly take care of Fearghus while Mum watched Beibhinn and took care of the house.  I've managed to get little organisation projects done here and there and I've attended many doctor appointments for both me and Fearghus but on the whole I've found my energy levels have been pretty low.  I find it takes a while for me to recover from c-sections, I'm just praying that the house won't fall apart once my mum leaves!!

So this is the biggest adjustment! Life on my own with two little ones. And they're both pretty little. Béibhinn is just 17 months and she's still not walking! However she is climbing the stairs so I can't take Fearghus upstairs to change his nappy and leave her downstairs because she'll be up after us on her own in a flash.  Fearghus is a little colicky and very spewy so he likes to be held for a while after feeds and Béibhinn likes to be held also.  I'm also tandem nursing so I'll often have the two of them on the seat with me looking to be fed.  It's going to be fun and any advice is much appreciated!

A couple of things I'm hoping to do:
1. Changing station on the main level
2. Baby carrier for post feeds
3. Napping while they nap!
